Langtang is the easiest of the big Himalayan valleys to reach from Kathmandu, and this is the shortest way to trek it. A day's drive takes you to Syabrubesi, and three days of walking up the Langtang Khola take you from oak and bamboo forest to the open yak pastures around Kyanjin Gompa.

Along the way you pass through Lama Hotel, Ghoda Tabela and the rebuilt village of Langtang, which was destroyed by an avalanche in the 2015 earthquake. At Kyanjin you have a free morning to climb Kyanjin Ri (4,773 m) for a view across the glaciers of Langtang Lirung, or simply to visit the monastery and the cheese factory. Then the helicopter collects you from the village, and you're back in Kathmandu before lunch, rather than spending two days walking down and another driving.

The price per person includes the private car to Syabrubesi, lodges and meals on the trek, a guide, porters and the helicopter flight back.

Highlights

  • Kyanjin Gompa (3,870 m) under Langtang Lirung
