Questions about helicopter tours

Where flights start, how many people fit, weather and what to wear. For altitude and health, see Before you fly; for prices, see the cost guide.

Where do the helicopter tours start?

Everest, Langtang, Gosaikunda, Upper Mustang and Rara flights start from the domestic terminal at Kathmandu airport, while Annapurna Base Camp and Muktinath start in Pokhara. Either way, we pick you up from your hotel.

How many people fit in one helicopter?

Up to five passengers in normal conditions. At very high landings such as Kala Patthar, the pilot may take a full group up in two short hops, because a helicopter can lift less in thin air.

Why does the price per person change with group size?

You're hiring the whole helicopter, and its cost is shared between the passengers, so five people pay much less each than one or two. On busy routes we can often add you to a shared flight.

What happens if the weather is bad?

The pilot decides on the morning. If the flight can't go safely, you can move it to the next clear day or have a full refund.

What time do flights leave?

Mountain flights take off between 6:00 and 7:00, when the air is calmest and clearest. We'll send you your pickup time the evening before.

Can children and older travellers fly?

Of course. Every passenger over one year old needs their own seat. For young children, older passengers and anyone with a heart or lung condition, we'd recommend a lower landing or the Everest flyover without landing.

Is there a weight or luggage limit?

Bring a small bag of about 5 kg. For the Everest landing we ask for each passenger's weight the day before, so the pilot can plan the load.

What should I wear?

A down jacket, a warm hat, gloves, sunglasses and closed shoes with good grip. It can be −10 °C at the high landings, even on a sunny morning.

How do I pay?

By card when you book online, or with a 25% deposit and the balance before the flight, by card, bank transfer or cash in Kathmandu.

Do you arrange rescues for trekkers?

Yes, from all the main trekking regions, at any hour, by phone or WhatsApp. Flights take off at first light. Our helicopter rescue page explains what to have ready.
